Daily Crack - Gascogne Top NYC Outdoor Garden

With a very small front on 8th Avenue between 17th and 18th streets in Manhattan, one could easily pass by this restaurant for years without realizing they were passing a NY hidden treasure.  A two story restaurant that stretches in length what it lacks in width upstairs, and sporting a smaller dining room downstairs; both rooms are very warm and intimate in nature and look out onto a beautifully lit and in the summer lovely extended garden dining area.

Romantic, cozy, and charming at all times this wonderful French restaurant is named for the Southwestern region in France it represents.  A pleasure to visit any time of year but especially during the warmer months when their garden is open, it truly has one of the best gardens in NYC.  Gascogne, with its wonderful food and an environment that stimulates both conversation and romance, is one of my favorite NYC “Cracks”.

I’ve always enjoyed their fish, have been told that their vegetarian platters are delicious, and having been accompanied to Gascogne mostly by good carnivorous eaters, I can attest to many satisfied meat eating customers quietly smacking their lips when through with their dish.  Gascogne has a small very friendly bar upstairs at the entrance to the restaurant where the restaurant also specializes in its collection of Armagnac.

Serving lunch Tuesday through Friday, a weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, and dinner 7 nights a week, reservations are recommended.  Also if the weather is warm and dry, I suggest trying to get a table in the back garden.

Below is an address and number for this Chelsea French Classic.
